This family planned a birth center birth, but unfortunately after spending many long hours laboring at the birth center had to transport to the local hospital for help. Natalie Jane was finally born by cesarean the next day.

I am in love with everything about this birth! After one son and one daughter mom and dad let this baby be a surprise. To tell the family they had printed BOY and GIRL on pink and blue sheets of paper so after the birth when mom was settled in with their new baby BOY in the recovery room dad and I went to the waiting area to tell everyone. It was so fun watching the older children run down the hall to him when we walked up and to watch everyone crowd around the door waiting for him to reveal what their little bundle was! Of course, he didn’t even have to unfold the paper before they all knew what it was and they were SO excited! :-) I had such a great time with this family!

Miracle.

A wonder
The definition from merriam-webster.com:
1.) An extraordinary event manifesting divine intervention in human affairs
2.) An extremely outstanding or unusual event
From Wikipedia.com:
“May refer to any statistically unlikely but beneficial event, (such as surviving a natural disaster). Other miracles might be: survival of a terminal illness, escaping a life threatening situation or ‘beating the odds.’”
His birth and the moments leading up to it were a whirlwind of sound, movement and emotion. I was unable to photograph or see them afterward, so I came back 2 days later to be with them in the NICU as she held her son for the 1st time. This was my 1st experience in a NICU and it was very touching, I am so glad I was able to be there for these precious moments.

This mama had been planning a homebirth, but her little stinker baby was trying to be born face first (hence the swollen forehead!) so a cesarean was necessary. Thank goodness for awesome midwives that catch these issues, brave mommies who will do what is needed for their little ones even though it isn’t what they wanted and respectful OBs that still try to make the birth a good experience!
